Free internet acces for Penan Muslim village

BINTULU: Residents of a Penan Muslim village at Mile 10 Bintulu-Miri road will soon enjoy free Internet access through a ‘community broadband centre project’.

The project, which would commence probably on April 1, will house 20 units of personal computers for use by the people in the village.

The project is implemented by the government through an initiative taken by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.

Telekom Malaysia Berhad will implement he project under a series of programme called ‘Pemberian Perkhidmatan Sejagat’.

It is learnt that the project is the first one being implemented especially in providing ICT services to people in the remote areas, and was the first one initiated in the village.

According to the chaorman of the village security and development committee (JKKK) Raini Pie, it was timely for the villagers to have such services.
